Assala was born into a middle-class family. His father, Mostafa Nasri was a well-known composer and singer. She began her career singing religious, patriotic and children's music at the age of 4.
Her first album, Law Ta'rafou, was recorded in Egypt in 1993. It was then Ouala Tssadak, then Ighdab where she sang for the great Syrian poet Nizar Kabbani.
